We ask you to join us in requesting God’s mercy as our country faces a devastating food shortage. Secondly, please join us in prayer that God provides the means to bring much-needed relief food to the community schools and neighborhoods where we work. Thirdly, we pray for the much-needed rains for better yields in the upcoming rainy season, even as the country seeks alternative farming methods to feed the starving population
Kenya’s Global Hunger Index (GHI) rating is 23.5 according to the severe hunger score. Kenya, like its horn of Africa neighbors, is suffering from severe drought, with 3.5 million people going hungry. This year, 15 counties with more than 10 million population face acute hunger, extending the ravages seen through 2022. According to at least four public and private organizations, 24 of the 47 counties, home to 18.8 million people, are experiencing food emergencies, crises, or stressed food insecurity due to five consecutive planting seasons without rain.
MCF campuses are located in arid, semi-arid, and desert areas where hunger is prevalent. A responsive community program is in place to alleviate hunger and starvation in the communities around us.
We have started several food relief programs: School feeding programs – 70 community schools provide daily hot meals to 23,410 students. Every year, MCF campuses distribute relief food to 30,000 families. Monthly, the MCF community health program feeds 100 marginalized households. MCF has drilled several boreholes on its campuses to provide safe and clean water to the community. Job creation – MCF employs hundreds of community members who use their earnings to support their families.
Lamentations 3:22-23 (NKJV)
22 It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed because his compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
Zechariah 10:1 (NLT)
Ask the LORD for rain in the spring, for he makes the storm clouds. And he will send showers of rain, so every field becomes a lush pasture.
