Taken Away By A Candle

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (NIV) – “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”
We share with heavy hearts the tragic loss of Paul Wambua, a bright and disciplined 16-year-old student at Dr. Charles Mully Community Secondary School. On August 13, at approximately 1:30 a.m., a devastating fire claimed Paul’s life while he was studying by candlelight. After unintentionally falling asleep without extinguishing the flame, the candle ignited nearby flammable materials, including his mattress. The blaze quickly consumed the family’s home. Neighbors rushed to help, but tragically, Paul passed away in his sleep from suffocation before they could reach him.
Paul’s parents, both casual laborers, had high hopes that he would one day break their family’s cycle of poverty through his hard work and academic excellence. Now, they not only face unimaginable grief but also the loss of their home and all their possessions. The Wambua family has reached out to MCF for support in providing Paul a respectful funeral and rebuilding their home, as they are struggling to raise funds for funeral costs, household necessities, and construction materials.
As followers of Christ, we are called to bear one another’s burdens and extend His comfort to those in pain. Please lift up the Wambua family in prayer, asking God to surround them with peace, strength, and provision during this heartbreaking season. Pray that compassionate hearts would come alongside them to meet their urgent needs, and that God’s presence would be their refuge and hope. Let us also pray for MCF as we continue to be the hands and feet of Jesus in our surrounding communities, bringing comfort and practical help to those in deep need.
