Under Attack

Since corona virus was first sited in Kenya in the month of March to date, the country has recorded increased gender-based violence, mental health issues, and violation of children’s rights. Overall, there has been aggravated cases of child abuse including: defilement, missing children due to abductions, child murders,
physical abuse, teenage pregnancies, among others.

After the closure of all learning institutions in the month of March 2020, Kenya’s teenage pregnancy is on an all-time high with over 150,000 girls aged 10 to 19 years being recorded as being pregnant. All these pregnancies happened in a span of 4 months, between the months of March to June 2020. Many more cases go unreported.

Please pray for these young children who have found themselves pregnant due to various circumstances. A lot of these young girls will end up on the streets, others will be outcasts yet another fraction may end up dead due to complications associated with child birth, while others will die resulting to crude ways of getting rid of their pregnancies.

As MCF, we are faced with a big dilemma of rescuing these vulnerable girls amidst the country’s projection of increased number of corona virus cases. Please pray that as MCF: we shall have the needed wisdom in selecting the most penurious cases: capacity to rescue the children amidst this pandemic; capacity building for our co-workers on psycho-social and counselling skills; and availability of finances to fully care for these girls during their prenatal and antenatal periods.

Psalm 127:1, 3-5 (NKJV)
Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it;
Unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain,
Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth. Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; They shall not be ashamed, But shall speak with their enemies in the gate.
