Monicah’s Story: From Pain To Purpose

Psalm 46:1 (NIV) – “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”

Monicah Loko Musembi is a 22-year-old with a vision far bigger than herself — to one day serve as a judge at the International Criminal Court. But her journey toward justice and hope began in deep brokenness.

Born in Makueni County, Kenya, into a large family struggling to survive, Monicah’s life was marked by hardship from the beginning. At just four years old, her mother fell critically ill. With no money for treatment, her parents left to seek help, and Monicah was sent to live with relatives. What followed were some of the darkest years of her life — hunger, abuse, rejection, and deep emotional wounds. At times, she found safety sleeping in the forest, rather than in the home where she was supposed to be cared for. Yet even in those painful places, God was at work.

A kind and courageous teacher noticed her pain and stepped in, helping Monicah with food, clothes, and school fees. Eventually, she introduced her to Mully Children’s Family (MCF), a Christ-centered home for vulnerable children. In 2017, Monicah’s life underwent a complete transformation. For the first time, she experienced family, love, and safety. She was given not just food and education, but also healing, faith, and hope.

She flourished. Monicah became a leader, excelled academically, and discovered her calling to fight for justice. With MCF’s support, she joined Kabarak University to study law, where she represented Kenya in international moot court competitions in Germany and the Netherlands, even placing third globally in one. She also served in legal aid and community outreach.

Recently, Monicah received a full scholarship to study for her master’s in International Human Rights Law at Florida State University — the only Kenyan chosen for the program. Her heart burns to defend the vulnerable, especially women and children affected by war and violence. She is also preparing to graduate in December 2025 from Kabarak University. Whenever she’s home from school, Monicah joyfully returns to MCF to serve — teaching, counseling, and walking alongside the younger children.

Her story is not just about achievement, but redemption — about what God can do when one life is rescued, restored, and released into purpose.

We ask you to join us in prayer for Monicah as she continues her journey — that God will grant her wisdom, courage, and protection as she steps into her calling, and that her life will shine as a testimony of His faithfulness and love.
