When the Land Is Dry, Our Hearts Are Not

Ephesians 6:18 (NIV) – “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”
Across large parts of Kenya, the ground tells a painful story. Fields that once carried crops now lie cracked and dusty. The long-awaited rains did not come, and the October to December 2025 season passed with little relief.
But beyond the dry land are dry plates.
In Machakos, Turkana, and Kilifi, where Mully Children’s Family walks closely with communities, families are stretching what little they have. Livestock have been lost. Small farms have yielded almost nothing. Food prices continue to rise, and for many households securing even one meal a day has become a daily struggle.
And the children feel it most.
Some arrive at school without breakfast and sit through lessons distracted by hunger. For many vulnerable learners, the meal served at school is not a supplement — it is their only dependable nourishment. Now even school feeding programmes are under pressure as food stores shrink and water becomes harder to access.
Many schools are doing their best, but they are carrying a heavy burden. Some children are quietly at risk of dropping out. The drought is not only threatening crops; it is threatening continuity, dignity, and hope.
As a ministry, we mourn with those who mourn, and we believe this is a moment to stand in the gap.
At the same time, we are responding in practical ways. MCF is supporting more than 70 community schools with emergency food supplies, clean drinking water, learning materials, and feminine hygiene products to protect the dignity of young girls.
When the land is dry, our hearts refuse to be dry; in compassion we flow even stronger as the hands and feet of Christ in this season, bringing relief where there is strain and hope where there is uncertainty.
We invite you to stand with us in fervent prayer.
We ask you to pray that God, in His mercy, will send rain and restore the land, and that families facing food insecurity will receive provision and daily sustenance. Pray for resilience for the children, that hunger will not steal their focus or their future, and for strength and wisdom for the schools as they care for their learners during this difficult season. Together, we remind every child and every family that even in drought, they are not forgotten.
