Who Founded Mully Children’s Family, and Why?
Mully Children’s Family was founded in 1989 by Dr. Charles Mulli and his wife Esther Mulli, whose shared obedience to God’s calling sparked a movement that continues to transform lives across Kenya.
Dr. Mulli’s story begins in deep poverty. Abandoned as a child and forced to survive on the streets, he experienced hunger, rejection, and instability firsthand. Against extraordinary odds, he pursued education and eventually became a successful entrepreneur. Yet despite financial success, he felt a growing conviction that his life was meant for something more.
That conviction became a clear calling from God: to sell his business interests and devote his life to rescuing children facing the same suffering he once endured.
Together, Charles and Esther began by opening their home to children in need. There was no institutional model, no long-term funding plan, and no guarantee of sustainability. What they had was faith, compassion, and a willingness to say yes.
As more children arrived, the mission expanded. Authorities and community leaders began partnering with the Mullis to rescue children from abuse, neglect, and abandonment. From the beginning, they rejected an institutional approach, choosing instead to build family-based care rooted in love, dignity, discipline, and spiritual formation.
Today, Mully Children’s Family serves thousands of children daily, yet the foundation remains unchanged. It is still about opening the door, welcoming children as family, and trusting God to provide.
